M.K. Gandhi does not need any introduction in India or any other part of the world for that matter. It can be said that he was Buddha and Christ of the modern times. He gave the message of love and non-violent which he practiced in the face of cruelty and tyranny of the British rulers. In spite of being a victim of apartheid several times during his sojourn in South Africa, he never instigated his followers to pay the tyrants in their own coin. On the contrary, he said that all the whites were not of the same character. Non-violence is the crying need of our time when violence is spreading like wild fire. Love, truth and non-violence were the basic and fundamental principles of Gandhi’s life. When Madan Lal threw a hand grenade in Gandhi’s meeting, he advised the government to pardon the miscreant. Sarojini Naidu wrote about him, “Like Gautam Buddha, he was a lord of compassion; he exemplified in his daily life Christ’s sermon from the Mount of Olives; both by precept and practice he realized the prophet Mahomet’s beautiful message of democratic brother-hood and equality of all mankind.” Gandhi was shot dead on 30th Jan., 1948 but he is not dead; he is still alive, shows light of truth and non-violence to the world.
