Narain’s Objective English Literature is to help those candidates who have to face many a difficulty for preparing for UGC NET, SET, JRF and other competitive examinations. The syllabus for these examinations is so wide and comprehensive that it embraces English Literature with emphasis on Contemporary British Literature and other Non-British Literatures, Literary Theory and Criticism, Contemporary Critical Theory and Rhetoric and Prosody. These candidates are handicapped by the lack of a good library. It is not possible to cover the entire material in detail on the multitudinous aspects of Literatures in English and Literary Criticism within a single volume. However, an effort has been made to encapsulate the entire relevant material in this book. It is planned and designed strictly in accordance with the U.G.C. syllabus for NET. Each chapter of this book consists of two parts, the first part contains relevant study material, presented precisely and lucidly, and the second part comprises the objective questions which are framed to cover various facets of the concerned chapters.

Contents:  Chaucer to Shakespeare (1340-1625) ; Jacobean to Restoration Periods (1603-1700) ;The Age of Dryden ; The Age of Neo-Classicism ; The Romantic Period (1798-1837) ; Victorian Period (1837-1900) ; Modern Period (1900-1938) ; Contemporary English Literature (1939 to the present Day) ; American and Other Non-British Literatures ; Indian English Literature ; Literary Theory and Criticism ; Rhetoric and Prosody.
