An attempt has been made in this book to suggest ways and means to improve teaching of English in the changed Indian conditions. The related problems have been discussed in the background of a variety of a theoretical considerations in order to equip the mind of the young teacher with a sound rationale of “what” and “why” in an English class. It is hoped that the book will assist the young teacher in tacking these problems more efficiently. Lesson notes given in the Appendices will provided guide-lines to the young teacher.

This book is now in its tenth edition, has been thoroughly revised and rewritten and new chapters have been added with the hope that students will find it more useful in its present form and in solving then day to day problems of teaching English in India.

The new chapters, on the Project Method , the Inductive and Deductive methods of teaching English have made the book more useful as solving their day to day problems to all concerned.
